The sunny, longer days are out. Now in Autumn, the weather starting to be more windy and rainy. Because of that, you are starting to lose motivation. You feel like you just want to stay at home, laying in bed under the blanket and do nothing. You lose the purpose of life and you are looking for some information that could help you fight these thoughts. So that’s why I am writing this post to help you during this difficult time.
I am personally a very shy and introverted person, so I have depressing thoughts probably every day. Don’t know why, but I always feel like nobody understands me and some people even laugh at me because I don’t talk too much and I feel a little sad about it.
So that’s one of the reasons why I started writing this blog. By expressing myself, I want to show people what I like and what my thoughts are about certain topics. I only comment on topics that I know, did, learned, or want to learn. I read a lot about depression and how to fight this, so now I am going to share with you some information that could help you understand this topic better.
Depression – what is it?
Depression – It is commonly said that it is a state of malaise, low mood and fatigue.
Symptoms of depression:
- no joy
- suicidal thoughts and behavior
- feeling guilty
- lack of energy
- disturbance of activity
- appetite and body weight disorders
- sleep disturbance
- negative self-assessment
Why Autumn is one of the worst times for depression?
As I mentioned at the beginning of this post that, with the first autumn chills, when it rains more and more outside and the days are getting shorter and shorter. Most of us are overwhelmed during this time by autumn sadness.
The most common reason why fall becomes the worst depressive period is due to Seasonal Affective Disorder
Seasonal Affective Disorder – is a depressive disorder that appears in the autumn and winter period and resolves in spring or summer.
The causes of seasonal depression are not fully known, but it is believed that the main factor is the lack of sunlight reaching our eyes. The sun’s rays contain vitamin D. The lack of large sun rays in the autumn-winter period means that we are exposed to the lack of this vitamin, which is needed by the body. It affects the way in which various brain structures function.
With these couple of ideas, I stopped being depressed and start feeling great, so I believe these tips will help you too. If it doesn’t work for you, it is worth to go to the doctor, because depression is currently the fourth most serious health problem in the world, according to the World Health Organization.
#1 Go outside
Fight through this laziness, go outside, take some fresh air and the most important part, catch the most sunlight as you can. As I mentioned above people need vitamin D that sunlights have. I don’t know how about you, but when I go outside I like to go for about 30 minutes or more walk alone. And these 30 minutes give me so much joy that I can not describe. Just this fresh air and everything outside makes me want to do more.
Meditate is the best way to stay focused. As you know depression is a state where you are focusing on having no joy in life. If you learn how to meditate you learn how to think of something else and you will forget these depression thoughts. I meditate for about 10 minutes per day (every day). If you never meditate I will for sure create a blog post in the future. However, if you meditate, here I have some background raining sounds to meditation/fall asleep just for you.
#3 Do a little workout
After a little exercise, you start feeling pumped. To me, the workout is the best way to feel good. Of course, sometimes you could feel exhausted after a really good training. However, this small thing, believe me, it would make you happy. You did something good that day. You worked on your body and improved yourself. But you don’t have to go to the gym if you see that is raining outside or something. You can do some exercises at home. I personally do a workout only at home calisthenic, yoga, and stretching. I also enjoy going to the swimming pool to swim a little bit. However, I am not going there too often, because, the nearest swimming pool is about 40 minutes from my home so I don’t want to waste this amount of time moving from one place to another.
#4 Go to the sauna
If it is possible go to the sauna. Sauna like meditation have the same impact. Relaxation is one of the greatest benefits of using a sauna. It is also a great way to calm down your body and relax your muscles. Of course sauna have more advantages to your body like improving the quality of the skin and the body’s resistance and much more. I use sauna whenever I am at the swimming pool that I mention above, because sauna is there. However, I will not write about it here more, but maybe one day I will write an article about saunas. At the moment, I am sending you to the Internet.
#5 Talk with people
By talking with people you forget about these “sad” feelings. But remember if you want to fight this depression you should avoid toxic relationships. Meet with people that make you happy, it could be your family or close friends. That has a good impact on you. Because when these people are bad for you, you just will feel more depressed. If you don’t have anyone to talk. Leave a comment, e-mail me if you want. Don’t be scared, I am not here to judge, I am here to support you. I am a shy person too, but the conversation with someone good helps.
#6 Listen to some music
Music is known as a cure to the soul. But you have to listen to the right music. For instance, if you are sad, don’t listen to soundtracks that will make you feel sadder. Find something relaxing and happy that will have a good impact on you.
Here I prepared just for you a Autumn/Fall Music To Relax.
#7 Listen motivational videos/podcast
Sometimes you need a little push to do something. Maybe it’s worth to start watching motivational videos. I am personally obsessed with this. I know probably every motivational speaker on the internet. Believe me, when you feel down, go on youtube or elsewhere and listen. But try to watch only one video not more. Watching motivational videos is time-consuming. So believe me one video in one day is enough. It will give you the right amount of energy to overcome this depression.
Here is a one video that I found on the internet that is very inspirational.
#8 Learn/Do something new
When you feel depressed in the autumn season. Maybe it is time to find something new to do, like a new hobby, new outfits. If you find something interesting to do, you should stop feeling depressed, because your mind will focus on something else. I like to always learn new stuff. Like this blog for example. I am constantly improving my website, my writing skills. That’s my hobby and my passion. Thanks to that I am focused on being the greatest in it.
If you want to find a new hobby and you are thinking about creating a blog. Here in this article, I am showing you how to start a blog in 2020, so you can do it too.
#9 Clean your house
To feel less depressed you should clean your house if you think that is needed to be cleaned. When you spent most of the time in a space that doesn’t look so good. It’s time to make some changes. Clean everything in your house, your bedroom, kitchen, living room, etc. If you are in a place that is very tidy and clean you feel much better. I live in a little apartment so I don’t have too much to clean. However, I am cleaning my house once per week. And I am not talking about cleaning every week the whole house. But the places that you spent the most time of your life. Don’t clean windows that often… Cleaning sometimes can last the whole day, so focus on the most important places.
#10 Change your diet
Autumn and winter season are the greatest time to make your favorite meals you didn’t eat in the summer. So it is worth thinking about what you eat.
#11 Cold Shower
I think one of the best ways to start a day is by taking a cold shower. I am taking shower about two times per day. Once when I woke up, and second while I go to sleep. Some of you probably say that is too much showering twice a day. However, I have a cold shower that lasts less than 5 minutes. After that, you feel just amazing. This boost of energy that you are getting after that is not to describe. I know that is very hard to do especially in autumn or winter where is colder outside. But believe me, is the best way to start feeling better. Also, a cold shower has a really good impact on your body from inside and outside. I am not a specialist, so I can’t tell what specific benefits a cold shower has. But for me, it works well. I feel that I have better skin, I sweat less, and I feel a lot of energy after a single cold shower.
#12 Just do what you like to do
I mention above that you have to have to find something new to do or learn. But it is also good to do what gives you joy. If you like doing something that makes you happy just do it. Sometimes just these simple things that you like could fight this depression.
